The Professional Practice Center is Here! And with it comes a whole new era in golf instruction for the Christensen Golf Academy.

The winter offers a fantastic opportunity to make overall improvements in your golf game. You can practice without the pressure of having to put up a score. And since Repetition is the Mother of Learning, the winter time offers a chance to an unbelievable number of repetitions

“On Your Mark” is a winter training program designed to give the golfer a get your golf swing and short game in order Psychologists tell us that it takes at least 3 weeks to break an old habit and build a new one. Frustration is often associated with the learning process, particularly when skill instruction requires simultaneous performance of the new skill. Without immediate feedback and correction, learners can become frustrated and revert back to “what is comfortable,” rather than “what is right”.

“On Your Mark” will concentrate on building the skills, which are so difficult to perfect while competing. “On Your Mark” will build a golf swing during the winter that can be used in the summer.

Students will have access to video swing analysis. My computer software from Swing View Pro enables me to communicate changes and ideas in a more efficient manner.

Classes Begin on November 30. Classes may be available every day. They will be offered from.

One of the common maladies that I observe throughout the year is a condition that I call right leg lock. (right handed golfers) During the back swing the right leg straightens. When this happens the left hip will get significantly lower than the right hip and a reverse weight shift will ensue. The golfer on the left has also overrated his backswing. The golf club has crossed the line. There is a lot going on here.

If you’ve got any sort of athletic background you know that keeping your hips level is a really important part of performance. In this case the the locked leg has raised the right hip and the left one has gotten low. The cure? The right leg should remain flexed during the backswing, and the weight will flow to the right rather than hanging left. By doing this, the overrotation will take care of itself. He’ll experience a better coil. There will be fewer moving parts.

Right leg lock is a tough fault to lose. Most people don’t have a lot of awareness about there legs within the swing. I will often put a trianing aid like the “M” brace or a the “Load and Fire.” on the players right leg to help keep the leg flexed. While the brace is on the player, it is imperative that attention be paid to the sensations that the brace gives. When it comes off, they must attempt to replicate the feelings and practice the skill on a regular basis. Shadow boxing the correct movement in the winter time will give golfers a head start in the spring.

The young fella in the picture above has one of the better impact positions I’ve seen in quite a long while. Look at the strength and straightness in his left wrist. The shaft of the golf club is lining up with his left arm. He’s coming off his right foot and his hips are clearing. Last, but not least, look at that head position. He’s looking right down the shaft at the ball. To quote that Orbitz guy on television, “This is important stuff we’re working on!”

The golfer at the left is standing too close to the ball. His legs are locked with his weight in his heels and his hands are too close to his body. The poor posture at the beginning is will cause all kinds of things too happen as he swings. The picture below shows one of them.

The picture shows the golfer at impact. He’s lost his spine angle. He’s trying to get taller so he can create more space to fit the golf club between his body and the ball. It isn’t working.

Once we fix his posture he will need training to help him learn how to maintain his spine angle. Just because one problem is fixed doesn’t mean all the other ones will fall in line. History matters. This stand up move at impact was learned. Now it has to be unlearned
